About

The Balance Center Acupuncture Clinic

The Balance Center has been a very successful acupuncture clinic, one of the reasons being the unique style of acupuncture practiced here. Most acupuncture clinics in the United States use a method that involves inserting needles directly into the area of pain. The problem with this approach is that one always runs the risk of aggravating the pain, and the results are not consistent or reliable. The acupuncture style used at the Balance Center is entirely different.

Our method is over 2,500 years old and is derived from the I Ching, one of the oldest books in the world. This method has many names such as “I Ching acupuncture”, but the best-known name for it is “Dr Tan’s Balance method”. The effects are nothing less than miraculous. Pain relief usually occurs in seconds after needle insertion, and long-lasting relief over a series of treatments is at least 80%. The acupuncture points used are on the scalp and ears, from the elbows to the fingers, and from the knees to the toes. The treatments are efficient and extremely effective.

The Balance Center owner, Lisajeanne Potyk, L.Ac., has completed her masters in Oriental Medicine at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine here in San Diego. She is licensed in California and nationally certified in the practice of acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Lisajeanne had the opportunity to enhance her studies through an apprenticeship with the world renowned acupuncturist Dr. Richard Tan.

About Your Acupuncturist, Lisajeanne

One of the most asked questions I get from my patients is, “how did I get into this (Acupuncture)?”

I wanted to make a career out of being a musician, so I pursued and received my Bachelor of Music degree. While I was successful as a musician, the more time I spent doing it, the more I realized that it was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I took a look at why I loved playing and writing music so much and came to understand that it was the idea of making people feel better and lifting the spirit that I loved. Music and healing are the same, so I decided to pursue the healing arts, thereby combining my artistic mindset with healing.

Through my mother, I had grown up with the idea of alternative medicine and how great it was to allow the body to heal naturally. With that in mind, I found an acupuncture school in New York City and wanted to attend the Fall semester to try it out. From the moment I sat in class for Oriental Medicine 1, I knew I was right where I should be. I felt the passion and love.

Just like in music class.

I see the body as an instrument, the meridians are the scales and the points are the notes.

Client Testimonials

“For years I have suffered pain from Fibromyalgia and also from injuries in my feet, knee, arm and back. My doctors have tried pain pills, anti-inflammatory medicines, physical therapy, Cortisone injections, but nothing worked. I was finally referred to a pain management clinic who referred me to acupuncture. I started treatment about a year ago with Lisajeanne Potyk. I decided that this was my only hope, so I continued treatment for a while. The pain from my injuries started feeling better, but the most wonderful results came from the relief I got from the Fibromyalgia. It took a while, but I cannot thank Lisajeanne enough for her getting me through an unbearable time in my life. I have now convinced my husband to start acupuncture for the pain in his shoulder and knee. He has never liked needles, but he is very comfortable with Lisajeanne’s method and is beginning to see results. We both are recommending acupuncture to those who have pain. Thank you, Lisajeanne!”

“Lisajeanne is the consummate professional. She combines her comprehensive knowledge of acupuncture with a great bedside manner. When I first began treatment, my pain was incapacitating and I was functionally limited in all aspects of my life. Now, my pain is significantly less and my quality of life has improved dramatically!!”

“I came to see Lisajeanne for acupuncture because I was having digestive problems, which I was given prescription medication for. After just a few treatments, I noticed that the swelling in my stomach had gone down and I no longer had to rely on the medication.”

“It is my pleasure to recommend Lisajeanne Potyk as an excellent acupuncturist. I have been treated by Lisajeanne for over two years. When I first came to her I was walking with a walker and in great pain. lam now much better and continue under her care for maintenance. I walk most mornings for at least one-half to three-quarters of an hour; and am enjoying better health thanks to her. She is very kind, considerate and caring with all her patients.”
